Chutzpah.  Moxie.  Balls.

Whatever one calls it, this guy has it:

NOTE:  Even if it's all a fake, it's a funny and marvelous fake.

... I finally won a curling match this season.  My first 3 games were entered into the Loss column, with one being so bad I can't even remember losing that bad in years.  Definitely NOT an auspicious start to the season.

Last night, however, my team and I posted a win.  Feels good.

Just watched "The Mist" on one of the Movie Network channels.  The movie was a good monster movie, with all the right buttons being pressed.

As some of you know, I have spent most of the summer - and a fair deal of money - rebuilding my life, item by item.  First it was needed furniture.  Then I took care of my wardrobe (actually ongoing but when is it not?).  I also re-joined the gym in order to build strength and feel better about myself.

Now there is more.  Last week, I went back to my Tai Chi after a 3 year absence.  I'm going to try to stay with it this time, although the basic issues of maintaining interest and having time never go away.  Today I continued that trend with my first ever yoga class.   A "hot" yoga session (Moksha yoga), it is as intense as it is invigorating.  The heat and the poses combine to really open up the body.  Some of the people, oh who am I kidding, MOST of the people are clearly veterans of the yoga scene and can bend in ways that make my eyes hurt.  Still it is a goal to which I can aspire.

Since I seem to have survived the first class and liked it, I will go back.

The sun is out for less than half the day
The temperature high is well below the "low" of just 6 weeks ago.
The leaves are doing their colour thing.

Conclusion:  time to curl.

Yes, our club opens its doors to curlers in about 2 or 3 weeks.  I can hardly wait.  Even my lower back injury - albeit nearly healed - is not enough to keep me away.  In fact I should be fine by then.

Time to dust off the equipment and set aside my curling clothes.

A colleague introduced me to a web site today.  I had not seen it before but was instantly captivated by it.  The site collects photos from the various news wire services plus a few other sources.  The photos are then assembled in collections looking at an issue without agenda or at least with as little agenda as can be had in today's world.

The collections stand as mute testimony to an event, place or object that is usually too big to comprehend otherwise.  The only text available are the captions at the bottom of each photo plus a brief introduction to the topic at hand.

Recent collections include one on North Korea and another on Hurricane Ike.

Check it out for yourself at "The Big Picture".

The other day I was walking near my home and a cell phone rang.  The ring tone was from "The Flintstones".  The guy answered the call with "Yabba Dabba Do!"

I can only hope it's an inside joke he shares with the caller.

Otherwise:  yuck.

Well, yuck anyway but double yuck if it's not a shared joke.

I recently came across a juicer with the unfortunate name of "Welles Peoples Press" or as one site has it:  "Welles People Juicer" .  The mental image that name brings forth is hardly what they had in mind, I am sure.

I don't know about you but I'm fairly certain that somebody, somewhere, could have done a better job in finding a name.

Ahhh at last.  My cold seems to be on the wane, which means my fun this weekend might be increasing.  I did manage the party last night and had a good time, even if it was for little more than an hour or so.

I will even manage to see my kids this weekend!

The summer might be waning but my summer cold drags on.

Tonight I am supposed to go to a combined housewarming and birthday party of a friend of mine, bringing along a guest.  She moved last year or so but was unable to do much in the way of celebrating.  To add icing to the cake, she is but a block away!  In addition to that, I and my date for the evening were thinking of extending the evening with dinner or a movie afterward.

I am also supposed to take my kids on Sunday, something to which I look forward every week.  A variety of activities are possible.

Now, however, all seems in doubt.  At this point, I'll have to play it by ear, I guess.
